About 5 minutes before the election was called the Environment Minister, Melissa Price, approved the groundwater management plans for Adani. The mine can go ahead, subject to approvals from the QLD state government. Ms Price said she accepted advice from the CSIRO and Geoscience Australia.
The CSIRO subsequently said the modelling used by Adani was “not suitable”, and leaked internal emails reveal the water plan was approved within hours despite a lack of details. Some believed undue pressure was placed on the CSIRO to give their approval.
The minister was not seen during the election and was dumped as soon as the LNP got back into power.
